Along with the regular youtube episode, I do put together more detailed show notes. This includes the links to what I talk about plus extending content like videos and music. Always stay up to date with the scene by also reading these show notes
This week we saw new concerts, physical and digital releases. News about Night Tempo and Maitro taking their music careers further into pop culture. and a way to help George Clanton!
WARP ZONE FUTURE FUNK CONCERT – May 31st, 2019
vapor- and future funk shows in St. Louis, MO. Artists in the line up include: Ahero, Oipee!, Bit Dream and Fire-Toolz.
We’ve had a chance to interview Ahero, so I’m pretty excited to see he actually took that leap from bedroom to live shows.
Yung Bae – BA3 & B4E release today!
Both on cassette and vinyl, both at the same time. Looks like it’s going to release on The Future of Funk’s website but their twitter hasn’t updated anything since April.
Keep an eye out on my twitter or Yung Bae’s twitter to ensure you get it at the right place.
10am PST which is 1PM EST
As I said in the video, the weekly posts are going to be more geared to digital releases with higher significance while the daily news will include more digital releases. Regardless we had a couple of artists get their music on Spotify
UVMIDIJAMS 3 (codename “MIDISuite” by ユートピアミCORP
To help promote this album the song Nu-Island was used in the intro. Out now on Tomorrow Entertainment Records
2 Weeks ago Night Tempo was at Spotify Japan and this week his getting on the Japan Times, in the culture section no less. The article talks about his process of finding samples for 70s and 80s cassettes.
“This type of stuff used to be restricted to internet micro-genres, specifically a style dubbed “future funk” online. Now it’s starting to creep into the spotlight. Jung remixed a handful of ’80s idol duo Wink’s songs for the “Wink — Night Tempo presents the Showa Groove” EP.”
The most interesting parts for me (since i’ve read a lot about Night Tempo before this article) was to find out he is 33 years old and he used to be a programmer. Now a loved member of the Sailor Team and gathering a massive audience I guess it just shows anyone at any age can chase their dreams and make them happen.
His new album “Showa Idol’s Groove” is now out on bandcamp.
As a side note, I’m embarrassed to say I thought the album was called Showa Idol’s Grove, not Groove. I’m surprised no one has corrected me on that.
I received a email from the billboard charts a few weeks ago, soon my music will be played on US radio! So blessed with this— MAITRO (@maitrovibes) May 6, 2019
MAITRO announced this week that someone from the Billboard Charts contacted him a couple of weeks ago and soon in the US we’ll be hearing his music.
It’s crazy to think that someone just emails you one day and says, he we want to put your music on the radio
I’m only familiar with his Dragonball Wave music but it’ll be interesting to see how his sound translates to american audiences and what stations it’ll play on.
Good for him for taking his music to that next level.
Help George Clanton
In last weeks news, we talked about how George Clanton jumped off a stage during a concert and broke his ankle (but he continued the show and then played the next show the next day!). Well fans reached out on how they could help him recover and pay for the new medical bills.
He responded with an awesome t-shirt off a photo shoot he had after breaking the ankle. The scene looks sick and I think it’s a cool way to move forward with this accident.
So if you’re looking to help George Clanton out, the t-shirts can be found on his Bandcamp. And if maybe a t-shirt isn’t your think, check out his music and purchase some digitally to support the cause.
