Welcome to the daily news and releases of Aug. 25th, 2019. In this issue, we discover some chip-hop, ambient (or more like chillwave) and a massive collaboration.
“A 2 hour collection of music from artists meeting up in the summer of 2019 to celebrate vaporwave music, culture, and above all community. This comp is meant to serve as a testament to the friendships formed online which are now transcending the digital realm and making their way into the “real world”. Many roads have led us to this point, but in this particular moment of time and space we converge. Special thanks to the dozens of artists who gave their time to make this comp happen, to the performers on stage who’m we’ve gathered to enjoy, and of course to the fans and casual listeners who make this scene so vibrant and welcoming (see also; alive, not dead, etc.)” – LOVE, The WIZARD
I liked this album so much, I listened to the album back to back twice before writing about it. It’s a perfect fusion of video game chip tune sounds and a hip-hop sound. I find chiptune type music very difficult to craft due to the harsh sounds a lot of these early game consoles (Gameboy, NES, etc) made. This does it perfectly.
There’s gotta be a better way to describe this album than electronic and ambient. I’m getting a strong chillwave or even synthwave appeal. The first track on the album, d r o w n i n g, has this wonderful back and forth of the main melody that is complemented very beautiful with this chill drum beat. Then to end the song, we get an amazing audio experience that my uncultured ears would relate to similar effects heard in dubstep. Let me know on twitter if you know a better term for it.
So what did you guys think of today’s releases? Find anything cool or buy a cassette? Come share it with us on the discord and hang out with other vaporwave fans!
