Welcome to the weekly news of May 11th to May 17th, 2019 for Future Funk and Vaporwave. READ the PINK!!!!
In this episode, Episode 42!~!!~ wow, we’ll be talking about 4 concerts you don’t want to miss, a label looking for submission, a couple of physical and digital releases and why Plastic Love is back!
George Clanton announced earlier this week the ton 8/31/2019 in Brooklyn, NY we’ll be having a massive Future Funk / Vaporwave concert. I’ll be going if I can get tickets today, which go on sale at 10am EST. Set an alarm to check this twitter at like 9:50 or something if you want to go cause it’s going to sell out.
Outside of the USA, this is probably one of the biggest concerts for the Future Funk scene and it’s based in London. The line up includes Mr Wax, Strawberry Station, Melonade, ev.exi, Android Apartment, Jelly Bon Bon, Tank, Conscious Thoughts. Big names in the scene for sure and a concert I really want to see. I guess we’ll see what happens. Tickets go on sale today. More information here
Super Party Ball!
Our last concert announced for the week. Super Party Ball is a video game themed event with Vaporwave artist and video games. They’ll be playing meele and super monkey ball on gamecube tomorrow, Saturday the 18th. $5 at the door. More information here
Physical / Digital Releases
Over World : The Quest For Calm by Wizards of Loneliness
A vaporwave / Hip-hop album being funding on Qrates. It’s currently at 76/100% funded. If this is your style of music, you won’t want to miss it.
Paradise Lost by Fat Man Miami
I talked early this week about how amazing this album sounded. How I thought it was a new sound and wave in the vaporwave scene. Posted that thought to reddit and didn’t get the same feedback. That’s cool but I still think it’s worth sharing in the weekly news. It was released on Seikomartjapan, so I’m guessing we’ll be seeing a physical release soon. I hope.
PARADER by HATENA
Hatena’s latest album out on Melt Records. It’s a wonderful mix of future funk from some of the best samples I’ve heard in a while. I liked it so much I reached out to ask if we could use it as the backing track for the entire weekly episode, the album is that good. Listen to it now digital on Bandcamp.
Other Scene News
Spotify announced an advertisement on their facebook this week that was themed to their vaporwave playlist. I think it’s interesting to note because maybe vaporwave on Spotify is becoming a top chart genre. I don’t think they would invest time and money into an advert if it wasn’t going to pull more eyes in. I think it’s a good sign for the scene.
Plastic Love is back on Youtube. Turns out an issue with copyright with the photograph took it down and after a couple months it’s back. So get ready to see it on the side menu for a couple of months as a recommended video. Glad to have you back Mariya Takeuchi 竹内 まりや.Card
