Every once in a while I surf through eBay looking for retro technology of yesteryear. Earlier in the month I stumbled into the world of shortwave radios after years of being away from the scene. I remember in earl 2010s I was super into shortwave and even reached out to my local Linux User Group seeing if anyone wanted to start a SW  Radio club. It didn’t turn into anything but  I did buy a couple of shortwave radios, listened to a few foreign country broadcasts and found it interesting but not something I stuck with in the long term.

Regardless of my story, I found this specific Sony SW Radio aesthetically pleasing. In a lot of ways it reminds me of an early slider phone mixed with a flip phone but here, the keyboard on the bottom half is used to punch in frequencies. You can listen to FM and AM radio as well as Shortwave. The speaker next to the display fits perfectly in the top. On the back it has a world map with UTC timezones. It’s wonderful. I didn’t buy it but I still admire the design. Sony wins again with winning me over as a fan of their craft. —KITE0080
