City pop (シティーポップ) legend Tatsuro Yamashita releases album Melodies on Moon Records on this month (June) in 1983. This jazzy, funk and soul pop Japanese album comprised of 10 tracks with the track Marry-go-Round (メリー・ゴー・ラウンド) being the most popular. The pure sounds of this track’s bass line and his vocals are a direct reflection of that Japanese 80 vibe we’ve all come to love.
There were various releases on cassette, vinyl and even had a 30th anniversary release a couple years back. It’s a staple for the genre and has stood the test of time.
The full album can be found on Youtube and there are plenty of physical versions for purchase on Discogs.
